The Doherty Law Firm Wins Jury Verdict in Hotly-Contested Construction Litigation Case.
A Gwinnett County jury took less than 30 minutes to return a verdict in favor of The Doherty Law Firm clients in a hotly-contested construction litigation case. The Doherty Law Firm clients were sued by a general contractor who alleged he was owed money in a botched remodeling of a commercial space. Success in this trial could be attributed to a thorough and adequate cross-examination of the general contractor, which exposed inconsistencies in his testimony and billing practices. The contractor’s attorney asked the jury for almost $30,000.00 in damages, which included principal, pre-judgment interest, and attorney’s fees. Akins Doherty argued to the jury that the contractor was not entitled to any recovery because the contractor failed to prove his damages pursuant to Georgia law. The jury returned a verdict in favor of The Doherty Law Firm clients in less than 30 minutes and awarded nothing to the contractor. The case was tried by Akins Doherty in Gwinnett County State Court.
